Australia’s weather today is dominated by a high-pressure ridge bringing stable conditions to most of the country, while a trough lingers over the southeast. The live conditions above show clear skies across the interior, with patchy cloud and light winds in coastal zones.
What is driving today’s weather pattern?
A broad high-pressure system sits over the Bight, keeping most of the mainland dry. This system directs a cool southerly flow into the southeast, meaning temperatures in Melbourne and Adelaide will sit a few degrees below the February average. A separate trough near the Queensland coast is drawing moisture inland, but no significant rain is expected today for Brisbane or Sydney. The west coast remains under a weak sea breeze, keeping Perth’s maximum around 30°C.
Will there be rain in the major cities?
No rain is forecast for Melbourne’s CBD or Adelaide today, as the high pressure blocks any approaching fronts. A stray shower may develop over northern parts of New South Wales, but the chance of rain in Sydney remains below 10%. The Bureau of Meteorology’s latest weather radar shows only isolated activity over the Top End.
Is this pattern expected to last?
Yes, the high will hold for another two days. A weak cold front may approach the southwest on Friday, but it will not reach the southeast until the weekend.
What does “high-pressure ridge” mean for daily life?
It means stable, dry conditions with light winds. No severe weather warnings are active. The UV index will be high in most capitals, so sun protection is recommended.
Where can I check the latest forecast?
