Live forecasts update automatically; written guidance last reviewed 23 June 2026 by the Southern Monitor Weather Desk. Data from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) and other national met services via Open-Meteo.

Check the live forecast above for your location then use the Bureau of Meteorology’s weather map to see what is coming next. The BOM map shows radar, satellite and synoptic data in one view, making it the quickest way to track rain, wind and pressure systems across Australia.

What does the BOM weather map show

The BOM weather map combines radar imagery, satellite loops and surface pressure charts into a single interactive display. You can zoom into any region, from Perth to Sydney, and toggle between rainfall and temperature layers. The map refreshes every few minutes, so it is useful for monitoring approaching fronts or storms in real time.

How to read the BOM weather map for your area

For a clear picture, start with the 128 km radar loop on the BOM site. This covers most capital cities and shows where rain is falling now. Combine that with the satellite view to see cloud bands moving in from the west. If you are in Queensland or NSW, check the 7‑day forecast alongside the map to plan for building heat or a southerly change.

Can I see the BOM weather map for free?

Yes. The Bureau of Meteorology provides its radar and satellite maps at no cost on the BOM website and app. There are no paywalls for the basic loops or forecasts.

Does the BOM map show 7‑day forecasts?

No, the map itself is live. For a 7‑day outlook you need to switch to the BOM forecast page or use a third‑party site like Weatherzone or Elders.

What is the difference between radar and satellite on the BOM map?

Radar shows rain and hail happening now within a few hundred kilometres. Satellite shows cloud patterns across the whole continent and ocean, useful for spotting approaching systems.
